Iceland President visits the new Green Building
The President of Iceland, Olafur Ragnar Grimsson recently visited Yorkshire to open the greenest office building in Britain, the Innovate building in Leeds - a 45,000 square foot office building at Thorpe Park.
Innovate Holdings, the company that owns and manages the office building, is owned by Eimskip, a major Icelandic transport and distribution company.
The Building Research Establishment (BRE) has awarded the Innovate project with the BREEAM (BRE Environmental Assessment Method) rating of 87.55% which is the highest rating of any building in the UK.
The office building - designed to house small business - has passive cooling, rooftop landscaping and plantings, vacuum drainage and combined heat and power units. It also has a rainwater recycling facility used for its advanced heating and cooling system.
Goodmarriott & Hursthouse designed and installed the Mechanical and Electrical services for this project.
