Videoconferencing: travel-free meetings and cost reductions
Having more time, helping the climate and making big savings on travel expenses are the major gains produced by videoconferencing. Conferencing using a large TV screen began at Imtech at the start of this year. Today it is possible at eight offices of Imtech Netherlands.
Let us say that ten Imtech employees from offices in Capelle aan den IJssel, Coevorden, Botlek and Wormerveer travel to a central place in the Netherlands to meet for two hours. This involves lots of travelling hours plus car expenses, petrol consumption and CO2 emission - and the hope that you will not get stuck in the traffic. 'There are lots of advantages that I could mention', says Maarten Knol, who for Imtech Netherlands Information Management is working on the development of videoconferencing. 'It began with co-operation with a customer of Industrial Services located far away from the Imtech site. The decision to use videoconferencing was subsequently embedded within the existing ICT infrastructure and rolled out as standard within the division. As the choice made by Imtech Netherlands satisfies the customary standards, videoconferencing can be an Imtech-wide solution,' says Knol. Meeting in this way without having to travel is now being used intensively by Imtech Netherlands business units including Building Services, Industrial Services, Contracting and Special Market Solutions.
