Order worth 80 million euro for integral Energy Contracting at Infineon
Imtech involved in increasing number of initiatives in Energy Contracting
Gouda - Imtech N.V. (technical service provider in Europe) has been commissioned by Infineon Technologies AG to realise the complete technical infrastructure in the new 150,000 m² Infineon Campus in Munich. The project, which includes a contract for the integral Energy Contracting services for a period of fifteen years, is worth 80 million euro. Imtech will ensure that the technical infrastructure, functional use and operating costs are adequate for all the energy amenities (among others heating, power and cooling), and will also be responsible for their optimal integration into Infineon Technologies? primary and secondary processes. With an annual turnover of around 7.2 billion euro, Infineon Technologies is one of the largest producers worldwide of semi-conductors in the markets of wireless communication, telephony, industry, computers, security and chip cards. In southeastern Munich, Infineon is realising a new German head office that will accommodate around 4,500 employees who now work in different buildings in the Munich region. Besides the management, sales, administration, production and distribution divisions, the building will also be home to the computer centre and the organisations R&D activities. The collaborating firms of architects TECPMC, Maier Neuberger architects and landscape architects GTL have designed an innovative construction concept for the new building. Under the name Campeon (a contraction of the words Campus and Infineon), a site of 60 hectares will be laid out according to the American Campus Concept, with medium-rise and low-rise buildings connected to each other in environmentally-friendly and green surroundings. The site will also include sports amenities, recreational and lounging areas, restaurants, shops and (roof) terraces. The new Campeon will officially open in the autumn of 2005.
For the design, but also during the construction and operating phases of the new Campeon, Infineon has outsourced responsibility for the complete technical infrastructure to Imtech Deutschland. Given the size of the complex, never before in Germany has a technical service provider taken on complete responsibility for the strategically important energy amenities on such a large scale. It involves heating, power, emergency power, cooling, drinking water and drainage. Amongst other things, groundwater wells will be used for cooling purposes, resulting in low Co2 emission. Imtech will be fully responsible for the functional use of all energy amenities in the Campeon project, as well as for the full operating costs for those amenities. Imtech will also guarantee that, during production, Infineon will have a breakdown-free power supply. To bring this about, Infineon Technologies will pay a fixed periodical fee equal to the lowest integral cost price during the total term of the contract (lowest Cost of Ownership).
There is currently a lot of interest in Energy Contracting services in Germany. Imtech is becoming increasingly involved in large-scale initiatives in this area. Besides the contract for Infineon Technologies, Imtech also recently won Energy Contracting projects for, amongst others, Max-Schmeling-Halle (a huge sports and event hall) in Berlin, the head office of IG Metall in Frankfurt, the maintenance buildings for the ICE (high-speed) train in Hamburg, and 22 public buildings in the Berlin region. These contracts have a total value of over hundred million euro.
To further develop this competence, a joint venture was established within Imtech to work out the details for exporting Energy Contracting to other Imtech countries in Europe. On this basis, Imtech will soon launch concrete initiatives in the Netherlands and Belgium.
